The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.
Psalm 103:8

The Vision that Inspires Us

I have a dream that one day a church will gather here on the corners of Waverley Rd. & Queen that will truly embody the love of Jesus… I have a dream.

I have a dream of a people who are incredibly diverse and yet gloriously one, as the Father, Son and Spirit are One… I have a dream.

I have a dream of a Sunday when this auditorium will be filled to overflowing, not just once, or twice, but three times or more, with people of every color under heaven: black, white, yellow, brown, red; different in race and culture but one in mutual respect and personal dignity… I have a dream.

I have a dream of a community gathered within our walls… teenagers with adults, little children with seniors, singles with couples, the rich and the poor, laborers with professionals, the educated with the unlearned, the powerful with the powerless, the struggling with the competent, the newcomers with longtimers, mature saints with the new born believers; holding hands and uniting hearts together, singing God’s praises, hearing God’s Word, and loving one another from the heart… I have a dream.

I have a dream of that same exuberant, technicolour family-streaming forth from this building, out into the community around them, to throw their arms around it and hug it to their hearts… sharing with it the good news of Jesus and His salvation, and the practical ministries of Love, with the poor and the lonely, the despairing and the addicted, immigrants and refugees, Muslims and Hindus, the shut-ins and the chronically ill, the street kids and the victims of AIDS, the unemployed and the abused, the gays and the prostitutes, the lost and the hurting, the depressed and the cynical, divorcees and single parents, with the business people in their offices, and cleaners on the lonely night shifts, the baby boomers in their apartments and condominiums, and the forgotten souls of the park benches… I have a dream.

I have a dream of a congregation united in praise and waiting in prayer until there comes a sound from heaven, as a rush of a mighty wind, and the Spirit of the Living God comes sweeping through this sanctuary like a surging river-cleansing, healing, renewing, refreshing and making all things new, until there arises from Waverley Rd. Church and all the community around it, a swelling song of worship and joy binding heaven to earth, and earth to heaven…

"To Him who sits upon the throne and to the Lamb be glory, honour, dominion and power forever and ever, hallelujah Amen!"
